A Timeless Black & White Wedding

A Classic, Made New

Black and white will forever be iconic. It is also one of the most familiar palettes in weddings, which is why we wanted to approach it differently for Vanessa and Corey. With sculptural roses and modern fonts, our bride gave the classic combination a fresh, contemporary edge.

The brief was minimal, luxurious, and designed to stand the test of time. Their wedding took place on June 20 at The Woodmark Hotel and Still Spa in Kirkland, on the shore of Lake Washington, with 100 guests. The setting did a lot of the work. We just kept the design quiet enough to let the water, the light, and the people take center stage.

Their Story

Their love story started with a delay. On their first date in Manhattan, Corey arrived thirty minutes late after circling for parking, and Vanessa wondered if he had ghosted her. He hadn’t. They talked for hours, and the connection was immediate. Years later, he proposed in Søgne, Norway, on the dock where Vanessa spent her childhood summers at her grandparents’ marina, beside a plaque honoring her late grandfather.

That grandfather’s memory shaped the whole day. His presence was felt in small, meaningful ways, and the design was built to leave room for it.

Sculpture & Restraint

At the reception, the florals became even more sculptural. Single-stem white roses stood in slim bud vases among tall tapers, so the tables felt architectural rather than arranged. Black napkins, glass chargers, and black chairs kept the look graphic.

Details That Made It Theirs

The details were where the day turned personal. Vanessa gave each of her eight bridesmaids a locket with a photo of herself and the bridesmaid inside, and the couple placed a handwritten thank-you note at each of their 100 place settings. After the ceremony, they slipped away for a private boat ride on Lake Washington. Even the signage had a modern edge. The place cards carried a bold, contemporary type pairing, and the signature cocktail menu, with an espresso martini and a spicy margarita among the options, matched the rest of the stationery. On the morning of the wedding, a bottle of perfume was labeled “Mrs. Lockett” with the date, 6.20.25.
